A Charlotte HVAC company that answers its own phone
Catawba Comfort Heating & Air has been family owned since 2011. Every technician who works on your system is employed by us, background-checked, and covered by our insurance — we don't sub out residential work and we've never franchised.
Dale and Wes Hartley
We're brothers, born in Charlotte, and we started this company in 2011 after a decade of working for people who ran theirs in ways we didn't want to copy. Mostly that meant overtime multipliers on a broken furnace at Christmas, and replacement quotes on systems that needed a $180 part.
So the rules here are short. Quote it in writing first. Pull the permit. Charge the same rate at 2am as at 2pm. And tell people the truth about what their house needs, including the times the honest answer is a smaller invoice than the one they called expecting.
Fifteen years in, that's still most of the business plan.
Six things, every job
A firm written price
Before work starts, not after. If we find something genuinely unexpected we stop and talk to you rather than adding it to the invoice.
The permit, pulled
We file it, schedule the inspection, and meet the inspector. Unpermitted mechanical work is a problem at resale and a problem with your insurer.
Our own technicians
Employed by us, background-checked, covered by our insurance. Nobody you haven't met is in your crawlspace.
The same rate, any hour
No overtime multiplier, no weekend surcharge, no holiday rate. Systems fail when they fail.
A measured system
Load calculated before a replacement is quoted, airflow measured at commissioning. Guessing from the old sticker is how houses end up cold and clammy.
A clean finish
Drop cloths down, old equipment hauled away, crawlspace left tidier than we found it. You shouldn't be able to tell where we set up.

Ask any HVAC company you're considering for their licence number and their certificate of insurance. A reputable one hands both over without hesitating, and verifying a licence with the state board takes about two minutes.
If you're in Fort Mill or Rock Hill, ask specifically about South Carolina. A North Carolina mechanical licence does not cover work across the state line, and plenty of Charlotte outfits take the job anyway. Ours are both above, and both are on every page of this site.
Your furnace doesn't check the clock
Our office is open Mon–Sat, 7am to 8pm. The emergency line is answered around the clock by an on-call technician — and a 2am call is billed at exactly the same rate as a Tuesday morning one. No overtime multiplier, no weekend surcharge, no holiday rate.
Tell us what's going on
Send it over and someone from our Charlotte team calls you back within 15 minutes during office hours. Free quotes on replacements, flat prices on repairs, and no overtime charge whatever time you call.
